Episode 3 rocks! It really got m started in my quest for vibish euro-horror.
ReplyDeleteThanks! We will do a sequel one day! Your email question is part of the impetus to revisit this subject.
DeleteIt might be self evident, but this article by you was useful in pinpointing movies with the vibe.
ReplyDeleteI also find this interview with Jack Shear, who is a professor of Gothic and Decadent literature, quite interesting.
And I quote, "My favorite elements of any Gothic tale are the moments of absurdity. Horror tales are a dime a dozen, but what sets the Gothic apart is its propensity to get really weird, to skirt the line between sublime terror and overwrought, and potentially laughable, excesses.
It might very well be that filmmakers like Franco, Klimovsky, Freda etc are going for this absurdity in their films and what we get is "VIBE". Howerver it gets there I'm now fascinated by it and thanks to you for pointing it out.
Thanks Mkotschi! That sounds like a great interview. I'm going to check it out. I'm really glad you dug on The Vibe. I blame Richard. -Brad
